Dr. Evina Katsou is a Professor of Water & Environmental Engineering in the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering at Imperial College London and leads the Resilience & Sustainability group, comprising 25 postdoctoral researchers and PhD students. She also leads the Imperial College London Strategic Research Theme Connected Efficient Cities, which focuses on integrated, AI-enabled, and resource-efficient solutions for sustainable and climate-resilient urban environments. She has authored 130 peer-reviewed publications, 12 book chapters, holds one patent, and has delivered over 150 presentations at international conferences. She has also edited two books, serves as editor for three scientific journals, and has given 25 invited lectures at prominent conferences and universities. Her research spans wastewater and water treatment, circular economy, and decarbonisation, with a focus on developing and applying data-driven models, digital twins, and mechanistic tools for monitoring and controlling complex systems. She has made significant contributions to greenhouse gas emissions control, AI-based water and environmental engineering, and sustainability assessment frameworks. Dr. Katsou is internationally recognised for her work on nexus modelling, particularly addressing the interlinkages between water, energy, food, and ecosystems (WEFE Nexus), contributing to evidence-based policy design and integrated resource management. She has led 40 international projects, including: SMART-Plant, HYDROUSA, WATERMINING, DEEP-Purple, INTCATCH, RESILEX, SYMBIOREM, R3VOLUTION, CSSBOOST, BIORECER, CRONUS, CARDIMED, ELOXYCHEM, SAFELOOP, STREAMS, BLOW, EARLY WATER, and the OFWAT-funded Triple Carbon Reduction and CECCU projects. Beyond academia, Prof. Katsou regularly acts as a consultant to governments, utilities, and industries, supporting the integration of sustainability, circularity, and resilience into infrastructure planning, policy development, and operational strategies. She contributes to the drafting team of ISO 59020 on Circular Economy and actively co-leads the Action Group on Intelligent and Smart Systems of the ICT4Water Cluster, two COST Action working groups, and the Circular Economy Vision Leadership Team of Water Europe.
