Dr. Ajith Gopi is the Additional Chief Technical Manager at the Agency for New and Renewable Energy Research and Technology (ANERT), Kerala, where he leads key initiatives such as Solar PV Consultancy, Floating Solar Programs, Solar-Wind Hybrid Power Plants, Wind Energy Programs, and E-Mobility Training. ANERT is the State Renewable Energy Nodal Agency under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Government of India. With over 33 years of experience in renewable energy, Dr. Gopi holds a PhD in Solar Energy from Universiti Malaysia Pahang. He is renowned for conceptualizing and implementing Kerala’s first Remote Solar Village Electrification Project, which provided solar power to thousands of tribal families. This project, funded by MNRE, included Solar Micro Grids and Solar Home Systems. Dr. Gopi was instrumental in commissioning Kerala’s first Solar IPP Project—a 2MW Solar Photovoltaic Power Plant at Kuzhalmannam, Palakkad. He also established ANERT’s Solar PV Consultancy Division, providing technical consultancy for numerous solar projects across government buildings. His international experience includes managing a 91.8MW Wind Farm Project in Gujarat and working on solar and wind projects in China, Portugal, and the Indian subcontinent. Dr. Gopi contributed to launching SunTechnics in India and has led efforts to amend Kerala’s Wind Energy Policy for increased energy transition. Dr. Gopi holds an M-Tech from the College of Engineering, Trivandrum, an MBA from IGNOU, and an International Diploma in Wind Power Development from LIFE Academy, Sweden. He is a Senior Member of IEEE, Chair of the IEEE Power and Energy Society Kerala Chapter, and an international speaker and author on solar energy. His recent research on solar farm performance and weather impact has been recognized by Elsevier and linked to the United Nations SDGs.
